The state of the Ukrainian pharmaceutical sector through the eyes of the international community

A unique opportunity has appeared for the pharmaceutical community – representatives of the developed world came to Ukraine to learn about our experience and help solve urgent issues at the 8th International Pharmaceutical Forum “Pharmacies of the World-2019”. The forum, at the invitation of the All-Ukrainian Pharmaceutical Chamber (NGO “VFP”), was visited by the Vice-President of the International Pharmaceutical Federation (International Pharmaceutical Federation – FIP) Eva Terasalmi (Eeva Teräsalmi). On the eve of the forum, on May 22, E. Terasalmi had the opportunity to meet with representatives of the pharmaceutical retail sector, educators, get acquainted with the domestic production of medicines, visit representatives of state authorities and in a regular pharmacy.

As part of the familiarization with the Ukrainian pharmaceutical industry, E.Terasalmi, together with the delegates of the NGO “VFP“, visited an excursion to one of the leading pharmaceutical manufacturers in Ukraine – the company “InterChem”. Igor Stelmakh, production director of the company, shared with the guests the subtleties and secrets of pharmaceutical production.

As part of the excursion, the guests visited the site for the production of finished dosage forms, the site for the production of API and the laboratory. The equipment of the new complex for the production of API allows to fully comply with environmental standards and requirements, completely eliminating the possibility of chemical contact with the environment.

Particular attention on E. Terasalmi produced a new production complex, equipped with modern expensive equipment produced by leading foreign suppliers, which meets European standards.

The “highlight” of the production was an unusual for the guests system of pneumatic mail, which allows you to quickly deliver the necessary materials (samples to the laboratory, documents and anything) in different parts of the plant. “Such a system is an excellent example of process optimization in production thanks to the implementation of creative solutions,” said E. Terasalmi.

An important aspect noted by the international expert was the 2D-coding of drug packages. “Such a rule is obligatory in Europe and it is very pleasant to see that in Ukraine they follow European initiatives not only in words but also in deeds,” said E. Terasalmi.

E. Terasalmi also paid special attention to production safety issues for employees and the environment: “What is important, the production premises are equipped with a modern fire protection system, which provides a high level of protection and automation. At the same time, in technological rooms there are modern means of protecting workers, which is very important, and in the most dangerous areas the latest gas fire extinguishing system is used. After all, caring for the environment and people is part of your team – indicators of the company’s responsibility and its readiness to be responsible for its work. ”
